My first 2 dogs growing up were Mini Poodles that my parents couldn't stand. (Then again, my parents didn't know how to train them at the time either) After that, my parents got into Yorkies. We always had at least one in the house and sometimes two. They were all pets because my parents couldn't be bothered showing them.

I attended my first dog show (Westchester KC) in 1972 when I was about 8 yrs old. From then on, it was like something of my dream to one day show dogs.

I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 1992, a year after I had gotten married. I wanted to get a dog that would be there for me and keep me company when I was going through chemo. In 1993, I noticed a Shiba in a pet supply catalogue my father's company was mailing out. Of course, like most of us, I thought they were adorable and wanted to learn more about them. A few days later, my Dad gave me the first published book about Shibas here in the US.

I knew Shibas were the breed for me. They seemed to be the perfect breed for my lifestyle. I attended a few dog shows, found a breeder and got my first Shiba in 1994. I really wanted to do Obedience with my new Shiba, but the breeder convinced me to show her in confirmation instead.

I knew my first Shiba, Akemi's Midori Melon Ball (Midori) would never become a Champion, so I decided to get one that would and I also wanted to get a companion for Midori. So, along came Mr. Miyagi (Ch. Taichung Kokoro of Niji) It took awhile, but Mr. M finally became a Champion, completely owner handled. For the past 2 yrs, Miyagi has been the oldest Shiba competing in Westminster.

I finally had my first litter of 2 Shiba furballs in Jan. 2007. Saphira, (Niji's Queen of the Dragons) the bitch of the litter, gave me a great honor by taking Best Bred-by Exhibitor at the NE Regional Specialty in 2007 at only 7 months old. I look forward to many more Shiba filled years.
